Lymphoma Specialist at the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center to Present His Research at New York City Conference

HACKENSACK, N.J., Sept. 16, 2008—Internationally renowned lymphoma specialist Andre Goy, M.D., M.S., from the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, will discuss his research at an educational conference on blood cancers in New York City on September 27.

The conference, “New Developments in Hematologic Malignancies,” will be held at the New York Marriott East Side. Dr. Goy, chief of the Division of Lymphoma and director of the Tumor Bank at the John Theurer Cancer Center, will present “Update on Mantle Cell Lymphoma.”

“New Developments in Hematologic Malignancies” is sponsored by Physicians’ Education Resource and will draw medical oncologists, hematologists, other physicians, nurses, physician assistants, fellows, and pharmacists in oncology. Dr. Goy will deliver a lecture, discuss cases, and take questions from the audience. Other presenters include colleagues from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and Saint Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, all in New York City, and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Hematologic malignancies are cancers that affect the blood, including lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. Dr. Goy is one of the world’s leaders in the treatment and research of all types of lymphoma, including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and HIV-associated lymphoma. He has specialized in his field for almost 25 years.

At the John Theurer Cancer Center, Dr. Goy participates in a number of clinical trials. His research centers on developing novel targeted therapies that and developing biomarkers for lymphoma. He and his research team are also working to develop vaccines that harness the body’s immune system to destroy lymphoma cells in collaboration with the NCI. As director of the John Theurer Cancer Center’s Tumor Bank, Dr. Goy oversees the facility’s activities in collecting, storing, and studying samples of tissue, blood, and cells used in cancer research.
